I get unexpected pleasure from museums and state parks.
I love that very specific stone architecture you see at parks from the 1930s that just say lodge. At the Bear Mountain State Park, south of West Point on the Hudson River, I got bucket loads of lodgy goodness taking in the trails and small nature museum complete with classic dioramas. Check out this tribute to Walt Whitman and The Song of the Open Road next to a statue of the great American wilderness man. 100% Action & Adventure. Here's a little taste:
Afoot and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.
We also saw the new Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia over spring break. No matter what level of understanding you have of this period in US history, this museum has something new to offer. Great reproductions, large scale maps, touch-screen displays, primary source documents--all really good stuff. AND, Washington's battlefield tent!
